ENGINEERED HARDWOOD INSTALLATION GUIDELINES
Plywood Sub-Floor: If plywood is used as a subfloor, “What Contractors Need for Hardwood Flooring Installation”. Below you will find a partial list of tools commonly used for wood flooring installations.

Prepping a Plywood Subfloor for Hardwood or Laminate Flooring

Prepping a plywood subfloor is crucial for a long lasting hardwood or laminate floor. For this project you will need a sander, long level, tape measure and a shop vac, a leveling compound, underlayment, a staple gun, a back saw, a circular saw, a drill with driver bits and screws, hammer and pry bar, pencil, moisture text kit, vapor barrier, utility knife and a chalk line and chalk.

To begin remove any carpet and baseboards. The subfloor needs to meet 4 requirements as well. It needs to be clean, level, dry and structurally sound. Remove any wax, paint, adhesives, oils, etc. from the floor. A sander will remove all of this debris. Next make sure the floor is level. For any high spots use a sander, for any low spots apply leveling compound. Testing the subfloor for moisture is the easiest way to figure out the moisture level of your floor. Make sure it meets the manufacturers recommended limits. If you notice that a the wood subfloor has loose or creaky boards, screw the boards down. Finally roll out the underlayment in strips and staple down to the plywood.

Once the subfloor is prepped, make sure the floor runs square. Now that the subfloor is prepped and measured, you are ready to lay your hardwood or laminate.
