ςHow To Install A Solid Hardwood Floor
A hardwood floor can be a rich and attractive addition to any home. After prepping your subfloor, it is time to install a solid hardwood floor. For this project the materials needed are 3/4'' hardwood floor planks, transitions and molding, wood putty, pneumatic flooring nailer, drill, hammer, nails, circular saw, table saw, pry bar, spacers, pencil, tape measure, dead blow hammer, utility knife, finish nails and a nylon tapper block.
A solid hardwood floor needs to be nailed down. Before getting started, check the boards for warping and defects, these should be discarded. To begin, lay the boards along the guidelines with the tongue side facing towards the center of the room. Place spacers between the boards and all walls to account for the expansion gap. Nail the board down by pre-drilling nail holes to prevent splitting. Hammer the nails into the holes. Stagger the remaining planks throughout the entire room conjoining the tongues of the boards. For obstructions, or if the expansion gap is too large along the walls, cut the planks to size with a circular saw to fit. Install the transitions and baseboards. Remove the transitions, install and nail in the baseboards and shoe molding. Be sure to cover all nail holes with wood putty.
